You also asked "Please P&Y, i want to know this after giving birth, must I use hot water to massage my belly like our mothers do? Does it have any effect whatsoever? What about the baby, can't I bath for the baby myself because I may not have anyone to baby sit for me?"
Dr Bello answers "What effect are you trying to achieve with the hot massage? That will determine whether the massage will be effective. Many women will agree that the full body massage soothes them (think sauna). Warm packs over the breasts will improve lactation, which is scientific. I've also heard people say that massage helps to reduce the size of the abdomen. I don't know how that will help, so I can't advise you on that. But, take it easy with the temperature of the hot packs though. You don't want to get burned! And, of course, you can bathe your baby. You can watch how the midwife does it before you are discharged from the hospital, and learn from that."
