Go behind the scene (my app secret inside)

I've decided to reveal how I make money from my app by just giving it away for free.

Before you continue to read this insightful article, click here to download Whookie Jump from iTunes. Please note that you need to have an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to download and play it. If you have any of that, go ahead and download it now. Install and boot it up. Then continue reading - it'll help you to better understand how I make money with this app.

But if you do not have an iPhone device, Whookie Jump is basically a trivia "jumping" game. I got the idea after seeing how massively successful Doodle Jump was. Just a simple game and yet, as of December, 2011, the game sold over 10 million copies.

So here's the scoop...

I've just updated to the latest version of my game recently. And here's how I make money with it, without even trying to sell it at all:

1. Ad popup. Before the app user plays the game, a pop up appears. But the coolest part is, the ad is not selling anything, it simply recommend other apps for them to download. THEREFORE, I'M ACTUALLY GETTING PAID TO "GIVE" MORE FREE APPS.

2. Nagscreen. If you do not know what a nagscreen is, let me explain it in a layman's explanation - it's a "popup" for mobile apps. But we've added a unique twist to our own nagscreen; instead of putting a popup from other ad network (like the first method), we're running our own ads. Which means, I can even promote a Clickbank product if I want to! :)

3. In-app purchase. We have "power ups" and so on for the app user to buy inside Whookie Jump. But frankly, this hasn't work well for us so far, it's likely because there's "no competition" for the user to strive for getting higher scores. We'll probably modify the game again in the near future.

4. Exit popup.  After the app user finished playing, an exit popup appears. This promotes a different ad. The reason why we have an entrance and an exit popup is because we're running ads from 2 different ad networks. Therefore, the app user won't see the same ad. 

5. Can you spot the 5th monetization method? :) There's another one there. ;)

By the way, notice that if I didn't mention Whookie Jump to you, it'll probably be impossible for you to know it's my app because there's no "Patric" (or even my internet marketing company's name) there. And that's why it's the "perfect business" - it's not dependable on my brand at all.

And if Whookie Jump took off well, I can always consider  to sell the entire business away to make a windfall of profit.

The fact is, Whookie Jump is just one of the many apps that makes money for me, in Apple's Appstore and for Google Android. I'll be creating more apps for 2014.
